Donate an item for the Silent Auction to benefit Philadelphia Academies, Inc. which helps enhance the educational experiences and career opportunities of Philadelphia public school students.

Philadelphia Academies, Inc. is a private non-profit organization that works with the School District of Philadelphia, the greater Philadelphia business community, higher education and other non-profit partners to enhance the educational experiences and career opportunities of Philadelphia public school students. They serve about 5,500 students annually, providing small learning environments within their neighborhood high schools. To the extent that they provide life and work readiness skills to these students, they also play an important role in addressing the workforce development needs in the region.

The mission of Philadelphia Academies, Inc. is to expand life and economic options for Philadelphia public school students through career-focused programming that prepares young people for employment and post-secondary education. The primary assumption in PAI’s model is that they can significantly change life and economic outcomes for young people by motivating them to learn through their own interests and real-world, career-connected experiences and curriculum. Embedded in the model are three core activities – programming that motivates, the active development of networks with caring adults, and local advocacy at a policy level for instructional and structural changes in secondary education. These efforts work together to produce the outcomes that they desire for students.

As an organization, SHRM has always been very active with various charitable organizations and encourages volunteerism from its members. In keeping with that tradition, 100% of the proceeds from the silent auction will be donated to a local charity, with a different one to be selected each year. Previous charities include Support Center for Child Advocates, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Philadelphia Futures, Gaudenzia, The Bridge, Child, Inc., Chester County Futures and Ranch Hope Inc.
